What a CSM actually does
You're a customer’s assigned point of contact after sale. You drive adoption, do quarterly business reviews, handle escalations, and (most importantly) prevent churn. Metric: net revenue retention.
Why it’s accessible
Most CSM job descriptions list "3+ years in a customer-facing role" — that includes support, account management, even teaching. If you have strong written English and product instincts, the bar is lower than engineering.
Tools to learn
Gainsight, ChurnZero, HubSpot, Intercom, Notion. Most of these have free trials. Sit through 1–2 hours of YouTube tutorials per tool until you can talk about them confidently in interviews.
Where to apply
Mid-stage B2B SaaS startups ($5M–$50M ARR) hire most aggressively. Browse RemoteJobs44 with category=operations or search "customer success" — there are dozens of openings most weeks.
