eleQtron develops and operates full-stack quantum computers based on trapped-ion technology. Quantum computing is a new computing paradigm rapidly approaching commercial viability. Our unique approach combines laser-cooled trapped ions with microwave control and tailored magnetic fields. Our next-generation computing machines under development will be able to find solutions to problems that are out of reach today, thus enabling new innovative products and services for a brighter future.
We are looking for a Site Reliability Engineer to maintain and support the reliability, scalability, and operability of the software systems powering our trapped-ion quantum computers.
As a Site Reliability Engineer – Quantum Computing (f/m/d), you will contribute to the reliability, stability, and operability of our software that operates our quantum computers. You will work closely with software engineers, firmware developers, physicists, and hardware engineers in an interdisciplinary environment, gaining deep insight into a cutting-edge technical domain. This is an on-site position in Siegen or Hamburg. Depending on your background, you will work on the following tasks:
- Contribute to the reliability of the quantum control and quantum program execution stack
- Support the definition and refinement of SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, and operational guardrails
- Implement and maintain observability across software, infrastructure, and hardware-adjacent layers
- Participate in incident response, post-mortems, and root cause analyses for system failures
- Identify operational risks and propose mitigation strategies
- Drive automation initiatives to reduce toil and improve system stability
- Maintain operational standards, runbooks, and documentation
- Contribute to CI/CD and release processes with a focus on reliability and safe deployments
- Collaborate with development teams to support production-ready system design
- Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- 2–4 years of professional experience in SRE, DevOps, Platform Engineering, or Systems engineering
- Experience operating and stabilizing complex systems in production or lab environments
- Hands-on experience with containerized and orchestrated environments
- Practical knowledge of monitoring, alerting, and observability tooling
- Experience participating in incident response processes
- Good technical documentation skills
- Ability to reason through engineering trade-offs
- Fluent written and spoken English
- Experience in hardware-adjacent, lab, or cyber-physical systems
- Background in scientific, research, or experimental environments
- Strong Python skills for automation and tooling
- Experience with long-running, stateful workloads
- Familiarity with firmware, control systems, or real-time constraints
- Experience with programmatic device control (e.g. SCPI, serial, USB, TCP/IP)
- Prior exposure to quantum computing or other deep-tech domains
